Join us on 18 May 2022 for our ‘Exploring distribution oversight and best practices’ digital event. FBC adviser, and distribution expert, Simon Hynes, will be joined by:

- Chris Town, Deputy Head of Compliance at Columbia Threadneedle Investments
- Laurence Mumford, Distribution Governance Director at M&G plc.
During this meeting, we will also touch on some of the themes of FBC’s forthcoming proprietary research on distribution oversight, and the extent to which it is being undertaken by UK & UCITS fund managers. This will include a focus on the role of the AFM’s board in overseeing distribution activities as well as examples of good practice evident in AFMs current processes.
There will also be the opportunity for questions to our panel.

Head of Distribution Oversight/Conducting Officer, Invesco Management S.A. in Luxembourg
Birgit is responsible for providing oversight of Invesco’s EMEA Distribution activities to ensure they meet regulatory requirements, as well as ensuring proper conduct in the distribution branches of IMSA.
Birgit joined Invesco from Deloitte, where she was a Senior Manager in the Financial Industry Solutions group, serving investment fund industry clients on topics including distributor due diligence and regulatory intelligence. Prior to Deloitte, she gained a broad and relevant commercial skillset through working in sales, marketing and client relationship management with bulge bracket banks like Bank of America Merrill Lynch, financial technology providers, as well as being an entrepreneur.
Birgit earned an MBA from the University of Liverpool, a Master in Communication Science from the University of Vienna as well as a Master in Telematics Management from Danube University Krems.
Distribution Governance Director for M&G
Laurence Mumford is Distribution Governance Director for M&G.
Headquartered in London, M&G distributes a range of Retail and Institutional products globally, operating from offices across Europe, America and Asia.
Laurence has been a Board member of M&G Securities Limited (MGSL) since 2004 and currently Chair. MGSL is the ACD for M&G’s range of OEIC mutual funds, which currently consist of approximately 55 sub-funds with £35bn assets under management. Day-to-day responsibility is focussed on governance and regulatory control to support the product offering and distribution teams.
Laurence is also Chair of the fund Boards for two M&G UCITS SICAVs which have growing importance to M&G in the post BREXIT set-up.
Laurence is a chartered accountant and joined M&G in 2000 having previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Deputy Head of Compliance EMEA, Columbia Threadneedle
Chris Town joined Columbia Threadneedle in 2012 and is Deputy Head of Compliance EMEA.
He is responsible for the client facing advisory functions of Compliance, including Distribution Compliance, Regulatory developments and EU (Lux) compliance.
Chris has been responsible for Distribution compliance (Sales, Product Development/Management and Marketing across EMEA) since 2015 and Regulatory Developments/Luxembourg and Branch Compliance since 2020.
Chris previously had roles within Compliance and as Head of Client Strategy in Columbia Threadneedle’s Distribution team, where he was responsible for helping evidence good customer outcomes and governance across the business.
At prior organisations Chris worked at Aviva Investors in Distribution Compliance and Jupiter Asset Management in various compliance and operations roles.
