Sold-out Boot Camp demonstrates strong interest in mutual fund board iNED roles
UK Fund Boards announces it is to create a membership organisation for fund board directors
Over 130 aspiring and incumbent iNEDs packed into The Grange hotel, St Pauls for the UK Fund Boards’ iNED Boot Camp last Thursday.
The terrific audience turnout, drawn largely from financial services, but with backgrounds as diverse as health, education, technology and housing was evidence of the considerable interest in hearing high calibre insight, comment and opinion on a range of fund board governance issues, all centred around the theme of what it takes to become a UK mutual fund iNED.
We were proud to also welcome two keynote speakers to the Boot Camp, firstly Chris Cummings, CEO of The Investment Association, who outlined the work the IA is doing to support the continued evolution of the UK’s fund board governance model.
Later in the afternoon, we heard from Susan Ferris Wyderko, President and CEO of the Mutual Fund Directors’ Forum in the US. Susan had flown in from Washington DC to share with our audience some of the similarities and differences between the US’ already well-established fund board governance model and that of the UK. She was also candid about the challenges facing directors in the US and how some of those challenges may translate to the UK market.
Summaries of each of the sessions will be available shortly for all attendees. If you weren’t able to make it to the event and we don’t already have your details, please subscribe to our news alerts via the UK Fund Boards’ homepage and we’ll make sure you receive all the materials.
The event closed with the announcement that, this year, UK Fund Boards is to establish a membership organisation for mutual fund iNEDs and non-independent board directors.
The aim will be to create an organisation through which directors can access the latest research, insight and best practice on fund board governance topics, hear from and network with their peers as well as from leading industry experts on these issues both from the UK and from other countries who have developed fund board governance models.
Watch this space for more details of the organisation and its membership options which will be available soon!
